What a great success! Bill Ronayne put together a wonderul luncheon at the beautiful New York restaurant, Patsy's. This restaurant was a favorite of Mario Lanza as well as Frank Sinatra and Tony Bennett. I ate there, so now I know what the fuss is about. Bravo Bill and thank you again for a wonderful afternoon. I sang 2 songs. First, I did 'Na Sera e Maggio'. I was still warming up. Then I did "Core 'ngrato" which was actually written for Enrico Caruso. I confirmed this with Cav. Uff. Aldo Mancusi who is the curator of the Enrico Caruso museum. I nailed this one. I was a little worried about the B-flat at the end "e nun ce PIENZE cchiu!" These words were the subject of discussion becuase so many people sing it differently. It is however speaking about the girl, Catari', who doesn't think of him anymore. We know this because "pienze" is the second person singular form of pensare (to think) in the Neapolitan dialect. The 'give away' is the "i". That tells us which form it is. Interesting stuff to singers. So many people sing it wrong, myself included. All in all, it was a great success and, as Bob Dolfi says "Mario brings good people together." That is so true.
